205. Capt. James DOUGLAS Esq. was born in 1762 in Prince William Co., Virginia.²⁰³ An obituary on 20 October 1820 in the Western Carolinianin Raligh, gave his age as 58. This would make his birth year as 1762. He died on 12 Oct 1820 in Anson Co., North Carolina.²⁰⁴ He appeared in the census 1790 Census in Anson Co., North Carolina.²⁰⁵ He appeared in the census 1810 Census in Anson Co., North Carolina.²⁰⁶ The 1810 census shows Capt. Douglas owning 29 slaves. It is apparent that Capt. Douglas took the "Old Philadelphia Wagon Road" from western Virginia to Anson County North Carolina. (see map)

James Douglas was titled "Esq." on many legal documents in Anson County. This designation was almost always used for attorney at law.

In the 1790's Capt. Douglas purchased many hundreds of acres of land in Anson county. Having died instate it is not known what happened to this land.

Capt. James DOUGLAS Esq. and Sarah Howard LEAKE were married about 1785.²⁰⁷ Sarah Howard LEAKE (daughter of William LEAKE and Judith MOSELEY) was born about 1768. There was a name change in this generation from Leake to Leak sometimes Leek. Capt. James DOUGLAS Esq. and Sarah Howard LEAKE had the following children:

293	v.	Jilson Berryman DOUGLAS was born about 1803 in Anson Co., North Carolina. He signed a will on 15 Feb 1855 in Anson Co., North Carolina.208 He died in 1855 in Anson Co., North Carolina. He appeared in the census 1850 Census in Anson Co., North Carolina.209 He was living in the home of James M. Waddill in the town of Wadesboro. Mr. Waddill was the census taker. Jilson never married nor had any issue that can be found
