286. Mary Elizabeth DOUGLAS274 was born on 16 Feb 1819 in Pattonsburg, Botetourt Co., Virginia.275 Agreement276 This prenuptial agreement was recorded in Warren County, KY on 20 May 1845. It is a lengthy document which basically says that Mary E. Douglas's inheritance, which was considerable, would stay under her control. This was agreed to by her husband John H. Douglas. "One of the oldest residents of the section succumbs to the infirmities of age.

Aunt Mary Douglas passed away this morning at her home near Riverside, Ky, from old age. Aunt Mary, as everyone knew her,, was born in Virginia in 1819, being over ninety-one years of age. She was reared in old Virginia, where she received a very good education, being women of quite extraordinary mental ability, she taught her children at home and to use the best English. Reared in the age when people were honest, she lived and did everything in the good old way. She never cooked three meals on a cook stove in her life, but threw her stove away and cooked her corn cake and potatoes in her ovens on an open wood fire. She was member of the Christian Church. She will be buried to-morrow in the family burying ground by her husband, John Douglas who has long since succeeded her to that bourne from which no traveler returns.

Douglas were first cousins. John H. was a son of Capt James Douglas of Anson county, North Carolina, the older brother of John B. Douglas Elizabeth was well off financially due to her interstice from her father and she legally had the right to control it. They had three sons, Benjamin and Walter lived in Warren county all their lives and never married. Jilson apparently died in Warren county. No records are available on his life or death.

Mary Elizabeth DOUGLAS and John H. DOUGLAS were married on 13 Oct 1839 in Botetourt Co., Virginia.280 John H. DOUGLAS (son of Capt. James DOUGLAS Esq. and Sarah Howard LEAKE) was born about 1804 in Anson Co., North Carolina. He died in 1870 in Home of Martha Alford in Warren Co., Kentucky. John Douglas and his wife Mary were first cousins. Mary Elizabeth DOUGLAS and John H. DOUGLAS had the following children:

Jilson Berryman DOUGLAS was born in 1842 in Montgomery Co. Virginia. He appeared in the census in 1850 in Home of Martha Alford in Warren Co., Kentucky. He appeared in the census in 1860 in Home of Martha Alford in Warren Co., Kentucky. He died after 1870 in Home of Martha Alford in Warren Co., Kentucky. Jilson Douglas must have died in the 1860's, he was not on the 1870 census and no
further records , or mention of him, can be found.

Benjamin Thomas DOUGLAS was born on 24 Dec 1846 in Botetourt Co., Virginia.281 Hereceived a: Land Grant]282 He died on 5 May 1931 in Home of Martha Alford in Warren Co., Kentucky.283 He was buried on 6 May 1931 in Family Cemetery, Warren Co., Kentucky.281 Benjamin died unmarried and without issue in Warren County, Kentucky.
